A Milli-Second Escape

On Feb 1, 2013: Saw close  the back of the three wheeler cart and next second... All I felt was pain! I woke up and felt numbness in my mouth. Tried to check out my mouth to find out what was wrong there. I felt the absence of a tooth. I was shocked! I lost a tooth!? checked my watch. It said it was 2:46 PM. I started driving my vehicle at 2:30 PM. Am sure the accident would have happened in between 2:41 PM to 2:45 PM. But the great escape was in few seconds.

I sat down on the pavement and I touched my head and my hands. All was fine! Praise the Lord. I just lost my tooth! Yay!

Yay!? Well... That means i have to see a Dentist!! How i hated to sit in that dental chair. Now, I will be forced to sit there. Who knows for how many sittings!? I checked my watch. It said it was 2:50 PM.

It was only after i subjected my mind to all these series of thoughts, that i looked around me. Saw where I was. I was in the Marina Beach Road. People were standing around me. There was a girl in Burkha who kept saying "Oh she was driving so fast!" and she continued to say that "And she did not wear a helmet!"

Now, this made me feel so guilty and scared. My mom will be so mad at me! She always said "wear helmet" at least 10 times before i left. And all that i would say was "Oh sure!" or "Yea mom..." but never really took it seriously.

Today, because I did not wear a helmet, I met with an accident and lost a tooth; which means i will have regular appointments with Dentist hereon. "Sheena!!!!" I scolded myself.

The pain in my mouth started increasing. And i heard people discussing the hospital i should be taken to. One man offered to call up "108- Ambulance". I then felt the urgency to speak up in pain and make sure that am not dumped in some hospital or clinic, but insist on running to my home! My home sweet home, where I have my parents who are doctors and can decide the best for me. So I tried to shake my hands and speak, and made it very clear that i want to go home!

One auto driver understood what i was insisting on and offered to take me home. Finally i got into the auto and as we started the ride, I saw one boy riding his bike close to me and insisting that I should get a TT injection in a near by clinic. I told him that "I want to go home" (Like a little kid would say 'I want ice-cream'). The auto driver gave a stern look to the Bike rider and zoom went the auto leaving that boy far behind. He assured to me that no one can take me to any other place than my home! I felt relieved. Though i knew he was eyeing at the huge amount he would get to drop me safely home from Marina Beach (far distance indeed), yet i appreciate his capacity to make the entire mass of people who wanted to take me to a hospital in an ambulance silent.

Feeling safe and comfortable in the auto, i called up my father first. Checked the watch. It was 2:56 PM. I told him that I met with an accident and tht am coming home. And i also informed him about my tooth. He just said "ok come home soon". My strong dad!

I then called up my sister and she was giving assurance that my tooth can be mended and that she is glad i am fine enough to go back home safe on my own in an auto! I felt relaxed. Right then the auto driver asked me whether i knew the girls in the two-wheeler riding behind me.
I turned back to see who they were. It was the same Burkha girl and her friend. She was following the auto. (How sweet of her!) But then the auto driver felt insulted. He was grumbling that people don't trust auto drivers now a days. I just did not have any energy or strength to pacify him that he has been a helpful auto driver today! I Just told him "Thank You!" Thats all I could speak with my injury.

Finally my campus arrived and i saw my mom and my nephew waiting to recieve me. The girls in the two-wheeler too came over and spoke to my mom. the girl in burkha made it a point to inform my mom that "she did not wear helmet". I then relaised the real motive behind her visit. (hehe) As expected, my mom gave me a sad stern look that said "u never take me seriously!
I thanked those two girls with all my heart and they smiled brightly and said "take care"

Life has its own surprises. Accidents are the greatest! But each accident teaches a lot. I saw how helpful people can be to a fellow human, and also saw how a milli second can change our entire life!
I fell face down on the solid road. Had i touched the road with my fore-head first, i would have got a severe head injury, or maybe i would not be here typing all this!
Am thankful to God for keeping me alive today for whatever purpose he has in my life!

Every second is a gift indeed! :)
